What is CDN?

A content delivery network (CDN) is a network of data centers that are distributed globally to bring the WordPress resources close to the visitor.

There are different benefits of using CDN – decrease server load, improve site speed and WordPress performance, advanced web security, reduce bandwidth and many others.

There are different CDN providers like Stackpath, Sucuri, Cloudflare, QUIC.cloud, KeyCDN, Rackspace, Google Cloud CDN, Amazon CloudFront and many others.

Most of them offer some free plans. It means you are not billed upto some extent and then pay as you go.

Each CDN is unique in its own sense.

Though the common service is to provide CDN, they provide additional services. For some of them you need to pay and others are free.

The global CDN market is expected to be USD 25+ billion by the end of 2025.

The common cyber attacks on CDNs are – Dynamic Content attacks, SSL based attacks, Attacks on non-CDN services, Direct IP attacks, Web Application attacks etc.

What are different Cloud CDNs

At the most basic level, a content delivery network (CDN) is a group of servers located in different parts of the world that work together to deliver content more efficiently.

When you request a web page that’s cached on a CDN, the CDN will route your request to the server closest to you, so you can get the content you need faster.

But there’s more to it than that. A good CDN will also provide other important benefits, like improved security, better performance, and reduced strain on your own servers. That’s why choosing the right CDN is so important.

So, what are some of the different cloud CDNs available?

Here are a few of the most popular options:

Akamai: One of the oldest and most well-known CDNs, Akamai has over 200,000 servers in over 130 countries.
Cloudflare: A relative newcomer to the scene, Cloudflare has quickly become one of the most popular CDNs. They offer a free plan as well as paid plans starting at $20/month.
Quic Cloud: A relatively new entry into the market, Quic Cloud offers an affordable pay-as-you-go model with no long-term contracts. Prices start at just $0.10/GB.

Are there any free Cloud CDN?

There are many different types of CDNs, and many providers that offer free or low-cost options.

Cloud CDN is a specific type of CDN that uses the resources of a content delivery network provider, often in combination with other resources, to distribute content more efficiently.

The main benefit of using a cloud-based CDN is that it can be easily scaling up or down to meet the needs of your website or application.

This type of scalability is important for businesses that experience spikes in traffic or need to deliver large amounts of content quickly.

Another benefit of cloud CDNs is that they are often easier to set up and manage than traditional CDNs.

This is because the provider takes care of most of the complex configurations for you. In addition, many cloud CDN providers offer features such as built-in security and caching that can further improve the performance of your content delivery.

One of the most popular cloud CDN providers is Cloudflare. Cloudflare offers a free plan that includes all of the basic features you need to get started with delivering content quickly and securely.

For businesses that need more advanced features, Cloudflare also offers paid plans with additional functionality.

Another popular provider is quic.cloud. quic.cloud offers a free plan that includes 1TB of data transfer and 10GB of storage per month. quic.cloud also offers paid plans with additional features and storage capacity for businesses that need more than the free plan offers.

What is QUIC.cloud CDN?

QUIC is a transport layer network protocol that provides a multiplexed connection over UDP.

QUIC was developed by Google and first announced in 2013. It is an experimental protocol and not yet standardized by the IETF.

QUIC cloud is a CDN service that uses the QUIC protocol to deliver content.

Currently, quic.cloud is the only CDN provider that offers QUIC support. Cloudflare also plans to support QUIC in the future.

LIteSpeed Cache (LSC) Plugin is a type of cache system that works on LiteSpeed servers. Sometimes, hosting servers are on Apache, NGINX etc.

In that case, the cache system doesn’t work. As mentioned before, LiteSpeed Cache is faster than server and Varnish cache provided by other systems.

You can read the ideal settings of LiteSpeed Cache that will boost performance and optimal QUIC.cloud.

As an alternative for non-LiteSpeed servers, QUIC.cloud acts as a CDN which provides different plans and online services. It is one of the new CDNs in the market which provides page caching, image optimization and other services. Web Security is one of its good features.

QUIC cloud Pricing

The pricing structure is a little complicated compared to other CDN networks on billing. But it is not costly and you can start with as low as $5. Then you can use it until the points or quota or credits expire.

There are two categories of QUIC.cloud pricing.

  1. CDN Pricing
  2. Online Service Pricing

The first one is for using the CDN of QUIC.cloud. It is based on credits. The second one is for using the Image Optimization, Page Optimization, LQIP kind of online WordPress services. It is based on quota.

If the site is new and doesn’t have many images, website resources then it will not cost you much. Also, the site not having much traffic will also have free CDN pricing.

Credits are the currency used for both the plans. One advantage with QUIC.cloud billing system is that you can refill credits when required.

The free type of CDN and Online services have some monthly quota or credits. They are renewed every month. No roll over takes place for free plans. If the free quota or credits cease, then CDN or online services stop working.

Initially, you can pay as low as $5 for getting 5000 credits. Then these can be used for CDN or Online services. For complete details of how CDN credits and Online Services quota system works, read along.

CDN Pricing

It offers two plans.

  1. The Free Plan
  2. The Standard Plan

CDN PoPs (Points of Presence) are physical data centers geographically present all around the world. Their main purpose is to serve website resources quickly to the visitor by reducing the round trip time. Each CDN PoP consists of many caching servers.

The Free plan is completely free and you need not pay any price for it. But it comes with limited resources. The standard plan costs money on a pro-rata basis.

CDN takes bandwidth. So the credits are used for bandwidth quota.
